Course Aims: The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and Regulations require training. Employers have a legal duty to ensure a safe work environment, and operators must receive the necessary instruction, training, and supervision.
- Employers must provide a safe workplace without risk.
- The EWPA Yellow Card serves as proof of training for EWP operators.
- Students must demonstrate competence in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The Trained Operator Card confirms completion in one or more EWP training modules. We offer five different EWP modules, plus a Transporting (Load Restraint) module. All modules are available on-site, while the Vertical Lift (VL) module is also offered at Forktime.
EWP Operator License / Yellow Card Course Overview
The Yellow Card Training Program is designed for individuals seeking to develop the skills and knowledge required to operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), also known as EWPs. This course covers the safe operation of various types of MEWPs, including boom lifts with a boom length under 11 meters. Participants can complete one or multiple modules based on the type of EWP they will be operating.

- Trailer Lift (TL)
- Truck-Mounted Lift (TM)
Course Outline: The Yellow Card training provides both theoretical and hands-on training. Delivered by EWPA-accredited trainers, the course focuses on key safety and operational skills for MEWP operators.
Course Content:
- Hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures.
- Fall arrest harness inspection, fitting, and use.
- Understanding safe operating parameters via data plates and manuals.
- Pre- and post-operational checks.
- Safe EWP operation.
- Emergency procedures.
- Theory assessment and practical demonstration.
Accredited Trainers: EWPA-accredited trainers are certified professionals who adhere to the EWPA Code of Practice. They are required to hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, along with extensive industry experience.
Outcome: Upon successful completion, training records will be submitted to the EWPA, which will issue an EWP Operator License (Yellow Card). This license, which is now available as a digital card for your phone wallet, includes your photograph and serves as proof of your training.
Course Prerequisites: There are no formal prerequisites for this course. However, operators must be able to understand the risks involved in operating MEWPs, including:
- Emergency lowering systems.
- Wind speed ratings.
- Operator manuals and logbook checklists.
Participants should be at least 18 years old, though those under 18 may face operating restrictions.
