Introduction
This course, listed on www.training.gov, is designed to provide advanced forklift operation training. However, it is not a licencing course for individuals who already hold a valid LF Class High-Risk Work (HRW) licence, in accordance with the National Standards for Licensing Persons Performing High-Risk Work. The course is part of the TLI Transport and Logistics training package.
Upon Completion, Students Will Receive:
- Statement of Attainment: TLID0016 – Operate a Forklift Truck
- Verification of Competence (VOC), if applicable
About This Course
TLID0016 Operate a forklift truck (LF) is a structured easy to understand competencies based course that requires a written Assessment. (Verbal assessments are offered for those with LLN issues at no charge).
Expected time frame for completion 4 – 6 hours
The entire course uses an animated visual PowerPoint displayed on LCD TV or projector together with a student workbook, handouts RTO issued logbook for written tasks & self-assessment, course videos and demonstrations with practical exercises.
Course Overview
This course delivers essential information and skills for safe forklift operations using current assessment tools. It includes hands-on and theoretical instruction, covering the following:
- Safe operation and handling of forklifts
- Multimedia presentations, workbooks, and practical exercises
- Training offered at your workplace or at our facility across NSW, including regional areas
Note: A valid high-risk work licence is required to operate a forklift, regardless of job size or cost.
Key Requirements:
- Complete the registered forklift training course
- Demonstrate required skills and knowledge for safe forklift operation
- Successfully pass an assessment

- Pre-operational and shutdown checks, and emergency procedures
- WHS environmental procedures
- Workplace duty of care and relevant regulations
All individuals in a workplace have a responsibility to ensure safety. The PCBU (Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking) must minimize risks, including those posed by vehicles or machinery. Warning devices should be used when operating mobile equipment to protect those nearby.
Once Ready For Assessment
An assessor is organised for both theory & practical assessment for a LF Forklift Licence, Safework NSW is to be given 48 hours-notice prior of any assessment for audit purposes.

From 1 January 2015 if you are undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a registered training organisation you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This includes studying at TAFE or with a private training organisation, completing an apprenticeship or skill set, certificate or diploma course.
A USI gives you access to your online USI account which is made up of ten numbers and letters. It will look something like this: 3AW88YH9U5.
A USI account will contain all your nationally recognised training records and results from 1 January 2015 onwards. Your results from 2015 will be available in your USI account in 2016.
When applying for a job or enrolling in further study, you will often need to provide your training records and results. One of the main benefits of the USI is that you will have easy access to your training records and results throughout your life.
