Health & Safety Representatives Refresher Course

Course Aims

To provide persons who have completed the 4 - day SafeWork NSW WHS Consultation Course with the understanding of the new Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and how it applies to their role as an elected member of a workgroup.

Learning outcomes of this bridging course are that participants will have the knowledge and skills to describe the WHS legislative framework and key changes in WHS terminology, Changes in duties under WHS legislation, Requirements for consultation, representation and participation on work health and safety issues.

Work Health and Safety Framework.

The WHS framework and new terminology.

Consultation, Representation and Participation.

Consultation requirements under WHS legislation.

Role of the HSR, Issue Resolution and Support.

Role of HSRs in consultation, assisting of workgroups and, as a member of a HSC, the investigation of complaints, and issuing resolution and support orders for HSRs.

Monitoring Risk Management, and Recording Notifiable Incidents.

Key requirements of risk management include; Monitoring and review of risk controls and recording of notifiable incidents.

Issuing Provisional Improvement Notices and Ceasing Unsafe Work.

Purpose and function of PINs, Role and requirements for HSRs to issue PINS and process for issuing a PIN, Disputes and resolution; Directing unsafe work to cease.

The course should also assist in the development of appropriate attitudes to enable HSRs to effectively carry out their functions under WHS Legislation. Persons attending this WHS Consultation course must request this training from their Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU).

The course is face to face using PowerPoint presentation complete with all WHS Consultation course material required to complete this course that include course notes, copies of relevant legislation, case studies and assessment tools.

This WHS Consultation course is a SafeWork NSW course and must meet the requirements of SafeWork NSW training package. Participants will need to complete all Topics as set out in the course guide provided by SafeWork NSW. On completion of this WHS Consultation course, participants will receive a certificate approved by SafeWork NSW.
